Soviet and Russian composer, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Gennadi Belov has died at the age of 86.

According to published information, the composer passed away on December 19. The causes of his death have not been disclosed.
Gennadi Belov was born in 1939. In 1961, he graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory (now the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory) where he studied composition under V. N. Salmanov. In 1964, he completed postgraduate studies under the guidance of musician D. D. Shostakovich. From 1966, he taught polyphony at the Leningrad Conservatory, later becoming a professor at the Department of Theory and History of Musical Forms and Genres and earning a doctorate in art history. His creative legacy includes operas, orchestral, choral, and chamber works. Belov was a laureate of several international composition competitions.
