What are the gas reserves of Azerbaijan? - What is our ranking in the world?

President Ilham Aliyev stated during his speech at the official opening ceremony of the "Baku Energy Week" that our existing gas reserves are sufficient to meet the needs of both our country and our partners for at least the next hundred years.

How much are Azerbaijan's gas reserves and what is our global ranking according to this indicator?

Answering the question of Medianews.az, economist and deputy Vugar Bayramov said that although different figures are presented by foreign companies and international organizations regarding the discovered gas reserves, Azerbaijan is among the countries with the largest gas reserves in the world. According to the assessments of the "EnergyNow Media" organization, Azerbaijan ranks among the top 12 countries in the world with the largest gas reserves. According to BP's assessments, the discovered gas reserves in Azerbaijan are 2.5 trillion cubic meters. The US Energy Information Administration also estimates that our reserves exceed 2 trillion cubic meters.

V. Bayramov noted that according to independent evaluations, Azerbaijan's proven natural gas reserves, together with forecasted reserves, reach 3 trillion cubic meters: "These are reserves sufficient to meet the country's domestic demand and exports for the next 100 years.

Regarding gas production, in 2025, Azerbaijan's total natural gas production was 51.5 billion cubic meters annually. The commercial gas volume is close to 39 billion cubic meters. According to these indicators, Azerbaijan is among the top twenty countries in the world.

One important point in gas production is the growth dynamics observed in recent years. The fact that total gas production exceeds 50 billion cubic meters annually confirms this.

As can be seen, Azerbaijan will maintain its status as an energy-producing and exporting country for many more years to come."
