Pashinyan has put Russia faced with a choice

“The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has put Russia before a choice. Pashinyan has proposed to the Kremlin that Russia restore the railways connecting Armenia with Azerbaijan and Turkey.” Political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu said this in an interview with Medianews.az.

According to E. Shahinoglu, the reason Pashinyan appealed to Moscow is that former president Robert Kocharyan once sold the internal railways to the Russian Railways Authority: “Pashinyan, taking this as a starting point, has asked Moscow to restore Armenia’s railways, which are under Russian control. Both positive and negative responses from Moscow to this request will be to Pashinyan’s advantage. If the Russian government agrees to restore the railways, Armenia will restore the railways that existed during the former USSR era without spending money. If the Russian government gives a negative answer to Yerevan or delays resolving the issue, it will be a basis for Pashinyan to remove Armenia’s railways from Russia’s control.”
