Performing on the stage of La Scala theater in Milan is considered one of the most important stages in the careers of opera artists and is regarded as a significant event confirming the artist's position in the international music arena.
People's Artist of Azerbaijan, world-famous tenor Yusif Eyvazov performed on the La Scala stage, singing the Calaf role in Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot." This role is considered one of the most complex and prestigious tenor roles in the world opera repertoire.
The performance on the La Scala stage requires not only high vocal mastery from the performer but also stage precision, professional preparation, and conformity with established musical traditions.
"This is the most important stage in the world - in Milan, at the La Scala theater. This is incredibly prestigious and at the same time a great responsibility," the artist said.
The Italian audience is distinguished by a high musical taste and demanding nature formed on the basis of bel canto traditions, paying special attention to every detail of the performance.
"The audience here is very demanding; they must be satisfied. The art of bel canto originated precisely here and is treated very sensitively. They pay special attention to the notes, phrases, words, high notes - the audience is very demanding," he emphasized.
The Calaf role holds a special place in Yusif Eyvazov's repertoire and is considered one of his main stage roles.
The artist has performed this role on leading opera stages worldwide, including debuting at the Metropolitan Opera theater (in 2015), as well as on the stages of London, Saint Petersburg, Berlin, and Arena di Verona. The director of the "Turandot" production presented at La Scala was Davide Livermore.
The production is distinguished by large-scale stage design and dynamic structure. The constant movement on stage requires both vocal and physical preparation from the performers. Nicola Luisotti stood at the conductor's podium. Eva Plonka and Mariancela Sicilia also performed in the production.
"This is a very creative production, with many people on stage and constantly moving decorations. You have to move while maintaining vocal accuracy - this is not easy," the artist said.
Yusif Eyvazov also specially noted the professionalism of his stage partners:
"It is very important to have highly qualified professionals next to you on stage. We are connected to each other, we work together, and this harmony determines a lot."
Performing the Calaf role on the La Scala stage is considered the next important stage in Yusif Eyvazov’s international career and once again confirms his position on the world opera stages.
