The president of this country refused to talk with Netanyahu.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun refused to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Medianews.az reports that the news was broadcast by the US CNN channel.

A Lebanese official speaking to the channel stated that official Beirut has conveyed to the US that it is currently not ready for direct contact with Israel.

According to the source, the Lebanese authorities have informed the Israeli and US sides that they do not intend to enter into any additional talks unless a ceasefire is achieved between Israel and Hezbollah. This stance has been formed against the background of Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon and the severe humanitarian situation.

At the same time, Israel's security cabinet held a meeting on April 15 to discuss possible ceasefire options. Earlier, Israeli officials had announced plans for a conversation between Netanyahu and Aoun. Even US President Donald Trump shared on social media that the leaders of Israel and Lebanon would establish contact, but did not disclose details about how and where the talk would take place.

It should be noted that although the war initiated by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28 was halted after five weeks with a preliminary ceasefire agreement, Israel continues to fight Hezbollah forces within Lebanese territory.

Israel declares that it has no intention of ending the war against Iran-supported Hezbollah.

As a result of the latest Israel-Hezbollah confrontation, more than 2,167 people have died in Lebanon, and over 1.2 million residents have been forced to leave their homes.

Medianews.az notes that the Israel-Hezbollah conflict has a 44-year history. That is, this conflict has continued since the establishment of Hezbollah.

The chronology of the main phases of the war between Israel and Hezbollah up to 2026 is as follows.

1982 – Israel enters Lebanese territory and conducts operations against the Palestine Liberation Organization and its allied groups. During this period, Hezbollah was established with Iran's support and began guerrilla warfare against Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon.

1992 – Hezbollah leader Abbas Musawi is killed as a result of a missile strike from an Israeli helicopter. He is succeeded by Hassan Nasrallah, who leads the organization for many years.

1996 – Israel carries out military operations aimed at pushing Hezbollah north of the Litani River. The shelling of the Qana area, where a United Nations base is located, results in the deaths of at least 100 civilians.

2000 – After prolonged confrontation, Israeli forces withdraw from southern Lebanon. This event is portrayed in the Arab world as a major victory for Hezbollah.

2006 – An attack by Hezbollah fighters on an Israeli patrol triggers a month-long war. The fighting ends inconclusively, but Israeli bombings cause significant destruction in southern Lebanon and southern suburbs of Beirut. This destructive military method later becomes known as the “Dahiya doctrine.”

2008 – Hezbollah’s military leader Imad Mughniyah is killed in a car explosion in Damascus. Israel is held responsible for the attack.

2012 – Hezbollah joins the fighting in support of Bashar al-Assad’s government during the Syrian civil war. In subsequent years, Israel periodically conducts air strikes on Iranian and Hezbollah targets in Syria.

October 8, 2023 – Following Hamas’s attack on southern Israel, Hezbollah launches missile strikes along the border. Israel responds, and relatively low-intensity clashes begin.

September 17, 2024 – Israel carries out attacks in Lebanon using pagers containing explosives distributed to Hezbollah members. The following day, a similar attack involving radio receivers occurs. Dozens of people die, and thousands are injured.

September 27, 2024 – Hassan Nasrallah is killed in southern Beirut as a result of extensive Israeli air strikes.

November 27, 2024 – A ceasefire agreement mediated by the US formally ends the war. Nevertheless, Israel continues its strikes in Lebanon to prevent Hezbollah's rearmament.

March 2, 2025 – After Israel and the US attack Iran, a large-scale war breaks out in the region. Hezbollah launches missile strikes against Israel, explaining this as a response to the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei and Israeli attacks in Lebanon.
