Is it really possible to destroy Iran overnight? – CNN

US President Donald Trump, who gave Tehran until 20:00 on Tuesday (04:00 Wednesday Baku time), saying that if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened, all bridges in Iran will be destroyed, power plants will be blown up, also stated that Iran could be destroyed overnight.

Is it really possible to destroy Iran overnight?

CNN channel reports that military experts view this with skepticism.

Medianews.az reports that an article posted on CNN’s website notes that this does not seem realistic within the framework of current military capabilities.

According to the calculations of Australian military analyst Peter Layton, six US B-2 bombers can carry a total of 96 high-precision bombs in one flight. Thus, if two flights are carried out during the day, six B-2 bombers can drop a maximum of 192 bombs on Iran.

In addition, 40 F-15 "Eagle" fighter jets belonging to the US and Israel can use another 240 bombs.

Thus, the total strike potential covers slightly more than 330 bombs.

Experts believe that this scale is not enough to destroy hundreds of energy facilities and infrastructure targets in a large country like Iran. Especially, the strong construction of power plants makes it difficult to completely destroy them with one strike.

Even if the US involves additional bombers such as the "B-1 Lancer" and "B-52 Stratofortress" in the operation, the likelihood of paralyzing Iran’s entire infrastructure in one day is assessed as low.

Specialists believe that the statements about Iran being destroyed in a short period are more of a political rhetoric character and do not coincide with real military capabilities.
