Whose salaries are below the national average? – What should be done? - EXPLANATION

The average monthly salary amount in Azerbaijan has reached 1151 manats. According to the State Statistics Committee, in the first quarter of this year, the average nominal monthly salary increased by 6.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During that period, the number of workers with labor contracts was 1 million 797 thousand people, of whom 869 thousand worked in the public sector, and 928 thousand in the private sector.

Economist deputy Vuqar Bayramov Medianews.az stated in his explanation that one of the notable points in the average monthly salary amount is the difference across sectors: "Thus, the highest salary is in the mining industry. The average monthly salary of employees in this sector is 4581 manats. That is, employees in the oil and gas sector earn 4 times more compared to the average monthly salary amount across the country. In the financial and insurance sector, the average monthly salary is 2814 manats. Employees in the banking sector receive the second highest salary in the country. In total, employees working in 9 sectors of the economy are offered higher salaries compared to the country’s average monthly salary amount."

In 10 sectors of the economy, the average monthly salary amounts of employees are below the national indicator. The lowest average monthly salary is recorded in agriculture, forestry, and fishing: 720 manats. The average monthly salaries of those working in trade and vehicle repair are close to the salaries of employees in the agrarian sector: 768 manats. The average monthly salary amount is 824 manats in education and 1048 manats in the science industry."

V. Bayramov emphasized that the sectoral analysis of average monthly salary indicators is important for differentiated salary increases: "Especially, optimizing salary amounts not only for civil servants but for the entire public sector remains a priority."
