Last Sunday morning, customs officers at the Germany-Switzerland border checkpoint stopped a vehicle — a cargo van. They wanted to check what the driver was carrying with her.
According to Medianews.az, the woman, a Swiss citizen, stated that she was returning from vacation. Then she began unpacking her travel luggage: one suitcase, two suitcases, three suitcases, four suitcases... 55 suitcases! All of them legal!
The customs officers inspected each of the 55 suitcases with an X-ray machine and found nothing prohibited from being brought into Switzerland.
So what did a woman bring in 55 suitcases? The spokesperson of the Swiss Federal Customs and Border Security Administration did not want to provide information to the media about this: "The suitcases contained various personal belongings of the traveler. No violations were detected, so we have no objections to the traveler."
It is not forbidden to travel with this much luggage in Switzerland. When citizens of the country travel abroad, they do not pay customs duties when returning with their own personal belongings. This also applies to travel luggage consisting of 55 suitcases.
