"Trump's ultimatum scared him more than Iran" – Political scientist

"It seems that Trump's ultimatum scared him more than Iran itself," said political analyst Shahin Jafarli in an interview with Medianews.az.

He stated that after the Iranian regime rejected the ultimatum, Trump did not risk carrying out what he had warned about. What he said about the complete destruction of Iranian culture was generally disastrous."

It should be recalled that on February 28 of this year, the US and Israel began a war against Iran. During this period, US President Donald Trump issued several ultimatums to Tehran. In his last ultimatum, he declared that if the Strait of Hormuz was not opened by April 7 at 20:00 (April 8 at 04:00 Baku time), all bridges and power stations in Iran would be bombed. Shortly before the deadline of the ultimatum, Trump also threatened that Iranian civilization could be wiped out overnight.

However, shortly thereafter it was announced that a two-week ceasefire agreement had been reached between the US and Iran. Talks between Washington and Tehran are expected to begin in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on April 10.

Shahin Jafarli noted that the two-week ceasefire will first of all allow Iran to organize the official funeral ceremony for the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the war: "The regime will try to gather as many people and foreign guests as possible to turn the ceremony into a source of legitimacy.

It is difficult to give a definitive and unequivocal opinion about the likelihood of results in the talks starting on April 10. It is clear that if an agreement is reached under these conditions, it will not be imposed by one party, but will be based on mutual compromises. The text consisting of 10 clauses circulated under the name 'Iran's conditions' is absurd and mainly aimed at propaganda. If there is no agreement, the likelihood is higher for an extension of the ceasefire rather than a resumption of the war."
