The US Senate has confirmed Markwayne Mullin as the new US Secretary of Homeland Security.
Medianews.az, citing Musavat.com, reports that 54 senators supported Mullin's nomination, while 45 senators opposed it. A simple majority was required for his confirmation in the upper chamber.
US President Donald Trump announced Mullin's nomination on March 5. He dismissed Kristi Noem from the position of Secretary of Homeland Security.
48-year-old Mullin is a Senator from the state of Oklahoma. He is Cherokee and will be the second member in the president's cabinet representing the Native American community.
