Are hormone-treated broiler chickens raised in Azerbaijan? - OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Claims about the breeding of hormone-treated broiler chickens in Azerbaijan do not reflect the truth.

Medianews.az reports that this was stated by Qoshqar Tahmazli, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency, during a joint interview with Trend and the "Khazar TV" television channel.

"In some cases, attempts are made in mass media to form the opinion that there are problems with the quality and safety indicators of products produced in Azerbaijan's poultry industry. I want to inform you that this does not reflect the truth. First of all, I want to note that state control is carried out over these enterprises. The second important point is that, in accordance with the requirements of food safety legislation, state control over feed safety is also ensured. Along with hormones, the issue of the use of antibiotics in poultry feed and drinking water is periodically raised. In this regard, the main essence of our proposed 'Unified Health' concept is that if feed safety is ensured, this simultaneously means that the safety of poultry meat and eggs is also ensured. Currently, state control is carried out by us in all poultry farms operating in Azerbaijan. Up to now, 163 state control measures have been implemented in nearly 100 poultry enterprises, and in 85 cases, violations of various normative legal acts have been identified. In addition, we have conducted more than 300 laboratory examinations. I want to say decisively that during laboratory tests carried out, no traces of antibiotics or hormones have been detected either in poultry meat or in eggs," he said.
