How many cities in Azerbaijan have had their master plans updated? - ANNOUNCED

Within the framework of modern urban planning policy in Azerbaijan, the Master Plan of 68 out of 79 cities has been updated, while the Master Plans of the remaining 11 cities are in the preparation stage.

According to Medianews.az, these remarks were made by Anar Guliyev, the national coordinator of WUF13 and chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, in a statement to journalists. He noted that the Master Plan for the development of Baku city until 2040 is one of the leading examples of a modern urban planning approach. This model combines compact urban development, integrated public transport, urban regeneration, and the creation of quality public spaces.

Housing provision is also one of the main directions of urban planning policy. Since the establishment of the State Housing Construction Agency, more than 12,000 families have been provided with housing.

The chairman of the committee stated that approximately 14.7 billion US dollars have been invested in infrastructure and housing projects in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur over the past five years. It is expected that the total investment will reach 18 billion US dollars by 2028. Within the framework of the projects, "smart infrastructure," renewable energy, sustainable land use, and digital management systems are being applied.

Anar Guliyev emphasized that according to the new spatial planning documents, more than half of the regional area has been designated as a green zone. Special institutional management mechanisms, including the President's special representatives, have been established for the effective restoration of Karabakh.

He added that Azerbaijan is also accelerating the implementation of green energy projects. Within the partnership with the “Masdar” company, a solar power plant project is being implemented in Karabakh, and the Khizi-Absheron wind energy project will be one of the largest green energy initiatives in the region. As a result of these projects, the share of renewable energy in the country is expected to increase from 13 percent to 38 percent.

"Azerbaijan is ready to actively contribute to the global dialogue on climate-sensitive planning, digital transformation, and inclusive development and to share its experience with other countries," Anar Guliyev emphasized.
