There are 5 rounds left until the end of the 2025-2026 season of Azerbaijan's national football championship in the top division (Premier League).
Medianews.az reports that "Sabah," leading with 69 points, is about to secure its first championship.
"Qarabağ," with 56 points and one game less played, apparently will have to be content with the silver medals.
"Turan Tovuz" has 55, "Zirə" 45, "Neftçi" 44, "Araz-Nakhchivan" 39, "Sumqayıt" 35, "Şamaxı" 32, "İmişli" 29, "Kəpəz" 21, "Qəbələ" 19, and "Karvan-Yevlax" 14 points.
Since 1992, "Qarabağ" has been national champion 12 times, "Neftçi" 9 times, "Kəpəz" 3, "Şəmkir," "Bakı," and "İnter" (currently "Şamaxı") 2 times, "Turan" (Tovuz) and "Khazar Lankaran" once each.
UEFA’s preliminary scheme for the 2026-2027 season of club tournaments envisages allowing 84 teams in the Champions League, 46 teams in the Europa League, and 113 teams in the Conference League. There are four qualifying rounds in the tournaments. According to the regulations, teams eliminated in the first qualifying round of the Champions League move to the Conference League, those eliminated in the remaining stages move to the Europa League; those eliminated in Europa League qualifications advance to the Conference League; in the league stages consisting of 36 teams, the top 8 places proceed to the round of 16, and teams ranking 9th to 24th enter the round of 32.
It is expected that the Azerbaijani champion will start the Champions League from the first qualifying round, the national cup winner will start the Europa League from the first qualifying round, the bronze medalist from the first, and the silver medalist from the second qualifying round of the Conference League.
In the semifinals of the 2025-2026 Azerbaijan Cup, "Qarabağ," "Sabah," "Zirə," and "Turan Tovuz" are participating.
Suppose "Sabah" becomes both the champion and the cup winner; the silver medalist will represent the country in the Europa League. In this case, the team that finishes fourth in the championship will play in the Conference League alongside the bronze medalist.
