Today, living without the internet is almost impossible. According to statistical data, more than 5.56 billion people worldwide use the internet every day. Even airplanes flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet now have internet access.
An interesting fact is that contrary to what many think, Wi-Fi is not an abbreviation for "Wireless Fidelity" — this term is simply an attractive name inspired by the concept of "Hi-Fi".
Medianews.az reports, citing Ajans.az, that although modern Wi-Fi 7 technology promises speeds up to 46 GB per second, the vast majority of users cannot reach these speeds due to the limitations of the internet packages they pay for. In most cases, when the internet works poorly, the blame is placed on Wi-Fi, but in reality, Wi-Fi is just a device that distributes the internet within the home.
Experts say that even switching to a high-speed internet package may not completely solve the problem. An old router, incorrect placement, and other technical factors significantly affect internet speed.
Change the router's location: placing the router in a central and open spot in the house greatly improves signal quality. Walls, doors, and household appliances weaken the signal. It is not recommended to place the router on the floor, in the kitchen, inside a closet, or near a mirror. If it is not possible to change its location, Wi-Fi boosters can be used.
Switch to a different channel: modern routers typically support 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels. The 2.4 GHz channel offers a wider coverage area, while the 5 GHz channel provides higher speed. Manually changing the channel in the router settings may positively affect the speed.
Update the router: old routers do not support modern technologies. Switching to a newer model or requesting a replacement from the internet provider can solve the problem. Alternatively, a second router or Mesh Wi-Fi system can also be used.
Update the firmware: like other devices, routers require software updates. Downloading and installing the latest firmware version from the manufacturer's official website can improve performance.
Disconnect unnecessary devices: although the router technically supports many devices, in real conditions, as the number of actively connected devices increases, speed decreases. Turning off Wi-Fi on devices that are not using the internet frees up bandwidth and increases speed.
Experts emphasize that keeping up with technology is important to increase Wi-Fi speed, but this only yields effective results when it aligns with the capabilities of the existing internet package.
