"Vital" warning regarding the use of fans in homes

Due to excessively hot heat waves, experts have issued an important warning: Do not direct electric fans directly at your body when the room temperature exceeds 35°C.

According to Milli.Az, the average surface temperature of human skin is around 35°C. When the room temperature is below this level, the fan accelerates sweat evaporation, cooling us down. However, when the air temperature rises to 35°C or above, the fan blows not cool air but the surrounding hot air directly onto your body. This prevents the body from losing heat and, conversely, causes it to absorb more heat.

Why is it dangerous?

In hot weather, you might think you are cooling down because sweat evaporates very quickly. However, this creates a "false sense of security"; the body continues to lose water (dehydrate) and the load on the heart increases.

Especially the elderly, infants, and those with chronic heart, kidney, and respiratory diseases are at higher risk under these conditions.

Safety recommendations from experts:

When the temperature is above 35°C, position the fan so that it circulates the air in the room rather than blowing it directly onto your body.

During the hottest hours of the day, prevent heat from entering by closing windows, blinds, or heavy curtains.

Drink plenty of fluids (especially water) throughout the day without waiting to feel thirsty.

Avoid heavy physical work and outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day.

Especially at night, during periods known as "tropical nights" when the air does not cool down and the body cannot cool itself, adhering to these measures is very important for your health.
