Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.
Modern.az reports that this was said by Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Damirchilu, in a statement to journalists.
"The Strait of Hormuz is a major energy communication route worldwide. The strait has not been closed by Iran. Transit there is managed by Iran. And we ourselves are subject to certain laws. We want organizations and oil-carrying tankers to comply with the laws."
The ambassador said that the danger posed to oil tankers could create ecological problems.
"The other day, the oil tankers using that route did not comply with the law, and measures were taken because of this. But if such incidents continue and Iran feels threatened, it will close the Strait of Hormuz if necessary to protect its interests," he said.
