During the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel, and the USA, strong explosion sounds were heard in the city of Erbil, Iraq.
Medianews.az reports this with reference to Trend.
It is reported that the air defense systems of the city of Erbil have neutralized several unmanned aerial vehicles violating the airspace.
Recall that in the city of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq, a U.S. military base and diplomatic missions are located. In this regard, the city has been regularly subjected to ballistic missile and drone attacks since early March.
It should be noted that since no concrete agreement was reached in nuclear program negotiations between the USA and Iran, from February 28 the USA and Israel began military air strikes on Iran. In response, since that day Iran has been attacking Israel and U.S. military facilities in regional countries with rockets and drones.
On the first day of the military air strikes on Iran, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking military officials were killed. On March 8, the Iranian Assembly of Experts, by majority vote, elected Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as Iran's third Supreme Leader.
Between March 1-5, the confrontation further expanded to include various countries in the Middle East.
It has been reported that the U.S. side’s losses include 8 dead and more than 140 injured.
As a result of the conflict, the region’s energy infrastructure and maritime transportation have also come under serious risk. Due to security tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices in the world market have sharply increased, and several countries have called on their citizens to leave the region.
