Experts have stated that ordinary aluminum foil blocks the signal and prevents relay attacks.

Medianews.az reports that the security problem of modern cars with keyless entry systems can sometimes be partially solved even with readily available means, especially aluminum foil.

The discussion concerns the "relay attacks" known in the automotive industry for more than ten years.

Researchers have proven that passive keyless entry systems (PKES) can be vulnerable to signal interception. This allows criminals to open and start the car without a physical key.

Why does foil help?

Experts explain that folding the key in aluminum foil creates a "Faraday cage" effect that blocks electromagnetic signals. When the key is fully wrapped, the foil can weaken the signal by up to 50 decibels, making signal interception virtually impossible.

However, even a small uncovered part on the foil can significantly reduce the protection effectiveness.

Experts note that the problem is not in the encryption itself but in the working principle of the keyless entry system, which allows signal interception and retransmission. (Lent.az)
