Ban on phones in schools is being legalized

The Ministry of Education in England is preparing to legislate the restrictions on mobile phone use in individual schools.

Medianews.az reports that the aim is to ensure that students do not remain dependent on their phones all day long.

Once the law is passed, the restrictions that have so far been advisory will become mandatory for schools.

The draft law envisages cases such as phones being kept off or placed in special lockers in schools.

The "Ofsted" ("Office for Standards in Education") organization that monitors education quality will begin checking the implementation of the new phone policy in schools starting this month.

So far, approaches to phone use in schools vary across different regions of the United Kingdom. In Scotland, school principals have been given the authority to impose bans. In Wales, the decision is also at the discretion of schools. In Northern Ireland, a "phone-free school" pilot project is being implemented.
