According to the "State Program for 2026-2035 on improvement of water supply, rain and waste water systems in Baku city and Absheron Peninsula" approved by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, 245 thousand water meters will be replaced in Azerbaijan.
Specifically, it is planned to install 45 thousand new meters and replace 80 thousand smart and 165 thousand mechanical meters that have reached the end of their service life during 2026-2030.
So, what is the current total number of installed meters? How many of the water meters are mechanical and how many are smart? Is it envisaged that all of them will be smart or mechanical during the years specified in the State Program?
Musavat.com reports that the United Water Supply Service of Large Cities informed Bizim.Media that 1,273,143 meters have been installed in six large cities under the institution's service.
It was noted that out of these, 1,060,072 are mechanical and 213,071 are smart meters.
"Out of 1,060,072 mechanical meters, 1,049,483 were installed for the population and 10,589 for non-population use. Out of 213,071 smart meters, 153,375 were installed for the population and 59,696 for non-population use," the information emphasized.
