A peace agreement could be signed soon – The US does not want the issue to be prolonged – EXPLANATION

“There is a possibility that a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be signed before the elections in Armenia.” Political analyst Shahin Jafarli said this in an interview with Medianews.az.

He stated that the United States does not want the issue to be prolonged and is interested in signing the peace agreement by June 7: “The U.S. Vice President James David Wance will visit the region — Azerbaijan and Armenia — in the coming days. This visit is aimed at accelerating the implementation of the agreements dated August 8, 2025.

It should be recalled that parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia on June 7 of this year.

Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on a draft peace and interstate relations agreement on March 13, 2025.

On August 8 of the same year, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia signed a Joint Declaration in Washington in the presence of the U.S. President, undertaking the establishment of neighborly relations based on the inviolability of borders and the inadmissibility of the use of force to acquire territory, and the foreign ministers of the two countries initialed the draft agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In Washington, the creation of a corridor (the Zangezur corridor) passing through Armenia connecting the main part of Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was also agreed upon. This project will be implemented under the patronage of the United States.
