Medianews.az has reviewed Azerbaijan's participation history in the Eurovision international song contest.
The contest, a project of the European Broadcasting Union, has been held since 1956. Azerbaijan has participated in 18 Eurovisions since 2008. In 2011, representatives Nigar Jamal and Eldar Gasimov won, and the next contest – “Eurovision 2012” – was hosted in the capital Baku, where Azerbaijan's representative Sabina Babayeva took 4th place.
Medianews.az reports that in 2013, Farid Mammadov took 2nd place, in 2009 Aysel Teymurzade and Arash took 3rd place, and in 2010 Safura Alizadeh took 5th place.
In 2008 Elnur Hüseynov and Samir Javadzadeh, in 2019 Chingiz Mustafayev took 8th place; in 2015 Elnur Hüseynov took 12th place; in 2017 Diana Hajiyeva took 14th place; in 2022 Nadir Rustamli took 16th place; in 2016 Samra Rahimli took 17th place; in 2021 Samira Efendi took 20th place; and in 2014 Dilara Kazimova took 22nd place.
In 2018 Aysel Mammadova, in 2023 Tural and Turan Bagmanov brothers, in 2024 Fakhri Ismayilov and Ilkin Dovlatov, in 2025 the “Mamaqama” group, and in 2026 Jamila Hashimova were eliminated in the semifinals.
So far, besides Azerbaijan, 26 countries have won the competition. Ireland and Sweden have won 7 times, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom 5 times, Israel 4 times, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Norway, and Ukraine 3 times, Spain and Germany 2 times, Monaco, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Estonia, Latvia, Turkey, Greece, Finland, Serbia, Russia, and Portugal once each.
In “Eurovision 2026,” held in Vienna, Austria, Finland is considered the favorite to win. The country is represented by the duet Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen.
The final is scheduled for May 16.
