April-July decision in Azerbaijan - "There are some points that are not disclosed to the public..."

The special quarantine regime in Azerbaijan has been extended again. According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the quarantine regime will remain in effect until 06:00 on July 1, 2026. Previously, the period was scheduled until April 1.

Medianews.az reports that well-known public figure and associate professor at Azerbaijan Medical University Rashid Mahmudov spoke to Globalinfo.az about this. In his opinion, there are cases of flu among people, but the quarantine is not related to this:

“An increase in illnesses is observed in almost every season, especially in winter and spring months. For example, two days ago in Badamdar the road was washed with soapy water, supposedly as a measure against disease. But linking the quarantine regime to coronavirus is not correct.”

Doctor of Medical Sciences Adil Geybulla believes that the current situation also shows certain advantages of some restrictions:

“It is true that people are experiencing difficulties, movement is restricted, and it is not possible to use dry borders. However, events show that the situation in the region is not completely stable. From this point of view, I think there are some aspects that we do not know or these details are not disclosed to the public.”

Adil Geybulla noted that although the coronavirus pandemic has ended, various epidemics still exist:

“Coronavirus has almost not disappeared completely. However, this fact alone is not the main reason for keeping the borders closed. There are probably other reasons. It is possible that there are certain details not disclosed to the public. Therefore, the authorities who decide on how long the quarantine regime will last can better assess the situation. But I emphasize once again that the current situation is not only related to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

It should be recalled that various experts have previously stated that the decision to extend the quarantine regime in Azerbaijan was made for security reasons. Against the backdrop of the failure to sign a peace agreement with Armenia, the Russia-Ukraine war, and military conflict in Iran, Baku's decision considering itself a key point is evaluated as a necessary state measure.
