In recent days, a significant decrease in the retail price of eggs has been observed in Azerbaijan. Previously, eggs were offered at 9-17 qəpik per piece, but now they are sold for 3-4 qəpik in some markets. Some large retail chains even offered eggs for 1 qəpik each on June 19 as part of discount campaigns. The discounted eggs mainly belonged to the Hacıqabul Poultry company.
Regarding the issue, it was reported by Hacıqabul Poultry, one of the country's largest egg producers, that the price reduction of eggs has a seasonal character.
"That is, egg consumption decreases in the country every year during the summer months. Additionally, difficulties caused by the Iran-US tensions in the Gulf countries, which are the main export destinations of Azerbaijani eggs, negatively affected exports. As a result, supply in the domestic market increased and a price decrease was observed. The reduction in the activities of wedding palaces due to the month of Muharram is also among the factors affecting consumption.
The company noted that the end of the school year and the decreased demand in public catering establishments have also led to a decline in egg consumption.
According to Hacıqabul Poultry Company, currently egg production in the country not only fully meets domestic demand but significantly exceeds it. It was reported that the production level amounts to approximately 125 percent of domestic demand.
According to the company's statement, for these reasons, some large retail chains have started short-term discount campaigns to attract customers."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan Poultry Meat, Egg Producers and Exporters Association has also released a statement on the matter. It was stated that the price reduction occurred due to market demand. According to Mürvət Həsənli, Chairman of the Association's Board of Directors, the current daily egg production in Azerbaijan exceeds 6 million pieces: "The domestic market demand is about 4-4.5 million pieces. Since production is higher than this demand, prices decrease. This is purely the result of market demand." milli.az
