"A new law on the protection of personal data is expected to be adopted in our country." This was stated to Medianews.az by Osman Gündüz, head of the Azerbaijan Internet Forum and director of the Multimedia Center.
He stated that last week members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport held a meeting-hearing at the Electronic Security Service.
O. Gündüz is also a member of this council. According to him, during the meeting held at the Electronic Security Service, discussions were held on transparency regarding internet resources blocked in the country, protection of personal data, awareness gaps, rising cybercrimes in the banking sector, safety of children, and other issues.
O. Gündüz emphasizes that a new law on the protection of personal data, compliant with European standards, namely the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is expected to be adopted soon in Azerbaijan.
O. Gündüz assumes that the oversight of the implementation of the new law will be entrusted to the Electronic Security Service.
