Unfounded claims about the eggs put up for sale have been spread in a number of media outlets and social networks regarding the sharp drop in egg prices in Azerbaijan.
Medianews.az reports that the "Azerbaijan Poultry Meat, Egg Producers and Exporters Association" Public Union has issued a statement on this matter.
It was noted that these claims also include assertions about the eggs being old or artificial:
"No food eggs are imported from abroad to our country."
According to the chairman of the Association's Board of Directors, Mürvət Həsənli, Azerbaijani producers more than adequately meet the domestic demand for eggs:
"Since egg production in our country exceeds demand, we have observed a recent price drop. In this case, the import of artificial eggs from abroad is absurd. Which country produces artificial eggs and sells them to Azerbaijan at zero cost? I say zero cost because if an egg is imported and retailed at 1-3 qəpik, you would have to get it for free to sell it at 1 or 3 qəpik. Moreover, there is no artificial egg production technology in Azerbaijan itself.
We believe that such claims are deliberately disseminated in society solely to damage the business reputation of local poultry farms. Unfortunately, some media outlets and websites also publish them."
M. Həsənli once again emphasized that natural egg production in Azerbaijan is sufficient, and there is no need for artificial or imported eggs./oxu.az
