Azerbaijan, which joined UEFA club tournaments for the 2025-2026 season with 4 teams, has been left without a representative since February 24.
Medianews.az recalls that "Qarabağ," which started the Champions League from the second qualifying round, managed to advance to the round of 32.
"Sabah" was eliminated first in the first qualifying round of the Europa League and then in the third qualifying round of the Conference League; "Zirə" was stuck at the very first test in the Conference League, and "Araz-Naxçıvan" managed to pass one stage in this tournament.
There were four qualifying rounds in each of the three tournaments. Teams eliminated in the first qualifying round of the Champions League moved to the Conference League, while those eliminated in the later stages moved to the Europa League; teams eliminated in the Europa League qualifiers moved to the Conference League. In the league stages with 36 teams, the top 8 positions advanced to the round of 16, and those ranking 9th to 24th advanced to the round of 32.
Azerbaijan ranks 27th in UEFA's club coefficient list, which has 55 members.
The ranking is based on coefficients accumulated over the last five seasons of club tournaments. A win in qualifying rounds earns 1 point, a draw half a point; in subsequent rounds, a win is 2 points and a draw is 1 point. There are also bonus points from the league stage to the final.
The points collected are divided by the number of clubs from the country that took part in continental tournaments, and the coefficient is calculated with a precision of one-thousandth. This season, Azerbaijan earned a coefficient of 5.812.
According to the preliminary scheme for the 2026-2027 club tournaments, the admission of 84 teams to the Champions League, 46 to the Europa League, and 113 to the Conference League is envisaged.
The Azerbaijani champion is expected to start from the first qualifying round of the Champions League, the national cup winner from the first qualifying round of the Europa League, the bronze prize-winner from the first qualifying round of the Conference League, and the silver prize-winner from the second qualifying round.
