The Norwegian state is considering tightening the requirements for obtaining citizenship.
This was reported by the Norwegian Ministry of Labor and Social Inclusion.
According to the information, some amendments may be made to the "Citizenship Act."
These include increasing the residency requirement for those wishing to obtain citizenship from three to seven years, as well as tightening the Norwegian language proficiency requirements for stateless persons.
In addition, stateless persons born in Norway or who came to the country as children will be required to reside in the territory of the state for at least five years, and the residency period will also be extended for applicants married to or living with a local resident.
It has been determined that the oral Norwegian language proficiency requirement for stateless persons will be raised from level A2 to level B1 (for persons aged 18-67). At the same time, the simplification of citizenship acquisition procedures is proposed, especially regarding the residency period requirements for various groups, but overall, simplification of the rules is also necessary./Report
