A notable dialogue took place during the official dinner at the White House between King Charles III of Great Britain and US President Donald Trump.
According to Medianews.az, responding to Trump's earlier remark directed at Europe that "If it weren't for the US, you would be speaking German," the king jokingly said, "If it weren't for us, you would be speaking French."
These historically significant remarks caused the guests in the hall to laugh.
In his speech, Charles also alluded to the burning of the White House by the British in 1814, presenting it as an "initiative for real estate development." He also touched upon the Boston Tea Party, stating that today's relations are more positive compared to the past.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, humorously addressed domestic politics in his speech. Recalling the king's speech to Congress, he said, “He managed to rouse the Democrats to their feet; I couldn’t achieve that.”
During the meeting, the king presented Trump with a bell belonging to the HMS "Trump" submarine launched in 1944 and called it a symbol of the shared history and future between the two countries.
The meeting, held in a sincere atmosphere, demonstrated that relations between the US and Great Britain continue amid global tensions.
