Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergey Melikov, is ending his term in office and moving to another position.
Putin announced this during a meeting with regional representatives at the Kremlin.
"The term of office of Sergey Alimovich Melikov, the current head of Dagestan, ends in September. He has done a lot of work. And we thank him for that. However, he is moving to another job, life goes on," Putin said.
According to the information, the speaker of the Dagestan parliament, Zaur Asgenderov, proposed Fyodor Shukin, the chairman of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, for the leadership position. The speaker also proposed Magomed Ramazanov, deputy plenipotentiary representative of the President of Russia in the Far Eastern Federal District, as the second candidate for the head of Dagestan.
Putin supported both candidates: "Magomed Ramazanov showed himself well in the elimination of the consequences of floods, I am not against his candidacy. Fyodor Shukin works with principle and without conflict. I hope that if Shukin becomes the head of Dagestan, he will handle economic issues." /Report
