The Ebola epidemic raging in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda could become one of the largest outbreaks in history.
This warning was issued in a report published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The report notes that if only 20% of patients are isolated, there is a 65% chance that the number of infections will reach 20,000 within three months. In case 70% of the population is isolated, this risk decreases to 5%.
"These results show the importance of effective measures in public health. Because the current epidemic is the largest recorded Ebola fever caused by the Bundibugyo virus to date and could turn into one of the largest Ebola epidemics ever observed in a short time," the report states.
According to the latest data, 452 infections have been confirmed in the DRC so far, and 82 patients have died./oxu.az
