Proper behavior during venomous snake bites is of vital importance. Mistakes made especially during a viper bite can worsen the situation.
Medianews.az reports, citing Foodinfo.az, that according to infectious disease specialist Vladimir Neronov, the first thing to do is to avoid the most common wrong methods. Cutting the wound, trying to suck the venom out, or drawing blood is both ineffective and increases the risk of infection.
The doctor states that applying a tourniquet (tight bandage) to the bitten area is absolutely prohibited. This disrupts blood circulation in the tissues, leading to serious complications and even amputation. At the same time, applying ice or cooling the area is also not recommended, as this can increase tissue damage.
Additionally, consuming alcoholic beverages and using medications without a doctor's prescription is dangerous. Alcohol can cause the venom to spread more rapidly throughout the body, and some medications can mask symptoms, making the situation more difficult.
The specialist emphasizes that being active, running, or panicking after the bite is also incorrect. The best course of action is to remain calm, move as little as possible, and immediately call for medical help.
