Although it is the last days of April, the weather in Azerbaijan still does not fully resemble typical spring conditions. Many people wear thick clothing in the mornings, and temperatures drop even further in the evening hours. Instead of the usually observed warm and sunny weather during this period, windy and cool weather prevails in some regions. Residents in the capital Baku and other cities complain about the late warming, saying "it's as if it is November." Particularly, the frequently changing weather conditions affect not only daily life but also people's health and mood. Meteorological observations also show that this spring season is more variable compared to previous years.
So, what is the reason for the weather being cooler than normal?
Medianews.az reports that Gülşad Məmmədova, director of the Hydrometeorological Forecast Bureau at the National Hydrometeorology Service, gave a statement to Democrat.az regarding this matter.
She stated that April is characterized by variable weather conditions by its very nature and that such airflows have also been recorded in previous years:
“The temperature fluctuating during the month, sometimes rising and sometimes sharply falling, is directly connected to the intervention of different air masses over the country’s territory. Specifically, as warm air masses enter, a somewhat warmer weather is observed and temperature indicators rise. However, when cold air masses subsequently penetrate the country’s territory, the weather cools down again, temperatures drop, northwest winds strengthen, and even snowfall is observed in high mountainous areas.”
Touching on expectations for May, the official from the service noted that work is currently underway to calculate the monthly forecast for May. Precise forecasts for May will be presented to the public soon.
