The secret of the rare fabric known as "sea silk," preserved from the ancient Roman era to the present day, has been revealed through scientific research.

According to Medianews.az, the research was conducted by scientists from POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology) in South Korea.

They determined that the golden color of this fabric is not created by dye but by a physical effect called "structural color." The special protein structure in the fibers refracts light like a prism, producing a shimmering effect.

According to the studies, this property ensures that the fabric does not fade and allows it to maintain its brightness for millennia.

In ancient times, "sea silk" was used only by emperors and the upper class. Fibers used in its production were manually collected from the Pinna nobilis species living in the Mediterranean Sea.

As a result of the very labor-intensive process, a small amount of thread was obtained, and this material was highly valuable in its era.

In the final stage, scientists managed to recreate this material in the laboratory, thus restoring a rare fabric that disappeared centuries ago with modern science.
