Medianews.az, referring to Oxu.Az, reports that Spanish doctor David Callejo has issued a warning about this. The specialist described the toothbrush as a "luxury hotel" for the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms during colds, diarrhea, or various oral infections.
The doctor stated that if the toothbrush used after full recovery from the illness is not replaced, a relapse (return of the disease) may occur. Because bacteria and viruses trapped between the bristles of the brush re-enter the body and cause infection.
The specialist added that if toothbrushes are stored together in the same holder along with the brushes of other family members, the risk of infection increases even more. "Using the same toothbrush after an infection is like wearing dirty underwear after taking a shower," David Callejo made an interesting comparison.
