The ruling coalition of Israel has submitted a draft law to dissolve the current composition of the Knesset (the country's parliament).
The information was broadcast by Israel's state television Kan.
It is reported that the draft law was submitted on May 13 by Ofir Katz, a member of parliament from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party and the head of the coalition. The document has been supported by the leaders of all coalition factions. It is expected that the date of early parliamentary elections will be determined through discussions in the Knesset Affairs Committee.
According to Kan, the coalition took this step initially to control the process and timing of the parliament's dissolution, which was initiated by one of the ultra-Orthodox factions and supported by the opposition. The vote on dissolving the Knesset is expected to be held next week.
According to Ynet, the coalition has already discussed possible dates for early elections, with September 1 or September 15 being initially considered. This option is supported by the religious Shas party, which hopes that voters will be more active during this period. However, representatives of the Likud and Religious Zionist parties believe that holding elections prematurely may be unfavorable for the current coalition and propose waiting longer. In particular, Bezalel Smotrich, the leader of the Religious Zionist party who fears that the right-wing party will not pass the election threshold, is trying to postpone the vote until October 27. The next Knesset elections were initially planned for that date. /musavat.com
