"Last month in Baku, the amount of precipitation was 5 times more than the norm."

“In the last 25 years, the temperature anomaly in Azerbaijan has been 1.1 degrees Celsius.”

Medianews.az, citing AZERTAC, reports that this was said by Azerbaijan’s Presidential Representative for Climate Issues Muxtar Babayev during his speech at the 5th Agribusiness Development Forum.

“By 2025, the average temperature across the country reached 14.3 degrees. This is 1.6 degrees higher compared to previous periods. The highest average temperature in the country was recorded in 2021 at 16.2 degrees,” he emphasized.

Muxtar Babayev stated that heat waves across the country also occur frequently and last longer: “In recent years, 29 heat waves were recorded in Baku, 16 in Ganja, 41 in Sheki, and 5 in Lankaran. Last year, the longest heat wave lasted 14 days in Sheki and 7 days in Baku. The number of flood incidents is also increasing. In 2015, there were 15 flood incidents in the country; in 2020, 36; and in 2025, 33. This trend continued in the first months of 2026 as well. In some regions, half of the annual rainfall norm was recorded in just a few months. In April, the amount of rainfall in some districts was 1.5 to 3.5 times above the norm, and in the capital, it was 5 times higher.”
