Pashinyan: the winner of one revolution and three elections

According to the preliminary report, in the parliamentary election held in Armenia on June 7, the Civil Contract Party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan won and obtained the right to form the government.

Medianews.az reports that Nikol Pashinyan was born on June 1, 1975, in the city of Ijevan. He studied journalism at the Faculty of Philology of Yerevan State University. His higher education diploma does not exist because he was expelled from the university in 1995 due to political reasons.

Since 1993, he worked as a correspondent for the "Dprutyun" newspaper, from 1994 for the "Lraqir" newspaper, as an editor for the "Molorak" newspaper from 1995, and as chief editor of the "Oraqir" newspaper from 1998.

Since 1999, he was the chief editor of the "Aykakan jamanak" newspaper. In 2008, a criminal case was opened against him for organizing mass riots. Nikol Pashinyan, who was imprisoned in 2009, was released in 2011.

In the 2012 parliamentary election, Nikol Pashinyan participated from the Armenian National Congress led by the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan and obtained a deputy mandate.

In 2013, he founded the Civil Contract Party. In 2017, the "Civil Contract" party's block "Çıxış" won 9 mandates in the parliament.

From March 31, 2018, Nikol Pashinyan led the popular movement against President Serj Sargsyan's intention to become prime minister. On April 9, Serj Sargsyan's presidential powers expired. On that day, since the country switched to a parliamentary system, the executive power was transferred to the prime minister. On April 17, Serj Sargsyan took the prime minister's seat, but due to popular protests, he resigned on April 23.

On May 8, Nikol Pashinyan took the post of prime minister.

In the snap parliamentary election held on December 9 of the same year, Nikol Pashinyan's "My Step" bloc won, and in the snap parliamentary election held on June 20, 2021, the Civil Contract Party won.
