The "Oscar" award belonging to Pavel Talankin, one of the creators of the famous documentary "Mr. Nobody Against Putin," has disappeared.
This was reported by "The Guardian."
It was stated that employees at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport confiscated the statue before the flight, claiming it could be used as a weapon. In his statement, Talankin said that he had previously carried the statue with him on several flights without any problems. "However, when I arrived at Terminal 1 of Kennedy Airport on Wednesday morning, the Transportation Security Administration officers informed me that they would not allow the 8.5-pound (3.5 kg) award onto the plane because it posed a security risk. It is completely unclear how they considered the 'Oscar' a weapon," Talankin said in his statement after landing in Frankfurt, Germany, without the award.
According to him, on previous flights, he always carried the statue in the cabin and faced no obstacles. The director said that a representative of the airline "Lufthansa" called the security checkpoint and offered to escort him to the boarding gate and keep the statue with him during the flight, but the security officer refused to make any concessions. As a result, the director was told he had to check the award as luggage. Since he did not have a hard-shell suitcase, he used a cardboard box provided by the airline, and he recorded a video of two employees wrapping the "Oscar" in packing film, labeling it, and sending it to luggage.
According to Talankin, this box did not arrive in Frankfurt, and the award is currently considered lost. //Oxu.Az
