The chess legend thought for 67 minutes - Lost in 2 minutes

A rare dramatic moment occurred in the world of chess.

Medianews.az reports citing "Qafqazinfo" that during the 2026 World Chess Championship Candidates Tournament, one of the world's strongest grandmasters, Hikaru Nakamura, was remembered for an unusual situation.

The experienced chess player spent a full 67 minutes and 44 seconds thinking over a single move at a critical moment of the game, setting one of the record indicators. This is noted as one of the longest thinking times recorded for a single move in chess history.

However, even this long thought was not enough to save the result. Immediately after Nakamura's decision, his opponent, young grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov, found a precise counter-move within just two minutes and changed the course of the game.

As a result of Sindarov's quick and effective response, the advantage completely shifted to his side, and he secured the victory in a short time.
