Turkish journalist Cüneyt Özdemir announced that he stayed in a hotel due to an armed confrontation in Mexico, where he had gone for vacation.
According to Medianews.az, an operation was conducted against Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, nicknamed "El Mencho," the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the largest drug cartels in the country, and it was claimed that he was killed.
After that, armed clashes began between the army and cartel members.
In the context of the confrontations, barricades were set up in some areas, cars were burned, and the road to the airport was closed. The public was called to stay at home until the situation stabilized.
Cüneyt Özdemir shared on his social media account that they had come for a three-day vacation and could not leave the hotel because of the events. He also noted that they contacted the Turkish embassy in Mexico.
