In Tbilisi, a woman who was an Azerbaijani citizen was murdered - DETAIL

A 37-year-old Azerbaijani tourist, Irada Guliyeva, has been murdered in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

Medianews.az reports that "Pirveli TV" has released this information.

It was noted that new facts have emerged from investigations related to the incident that occurred two days ago on Mgaloblishvili Street in Tbilisi. According to the prosecution's version, the accused Iveri Eliava had not known the victim beforehand; after they met via social networks, the man arranged to meet.

The prosecutor stated that the accused person suffered from gambling addiction and therefore faced serious financial difficulties, including large bank debts. He decided to kill I. Guliyeva to obtain financial means.

According to investigation materials, I. Eliava inflicted multiple stab wounds on the woman’s neck and throat area, and the victim died at the scene. After committing the crime, he went to a nearby police station and surrendered. The accused handed over the murder weapon—a knife—as well as the victim’s mobile phones and passport to the police. It was precisely based on this document that it was determined the murdered person was an Azerbaijani citizen.

During initial interrogation, I. Eliava confessed to the crime and explained the motive in detail; however, he changed his position during the court process. He currently exercises his right to remain silent and does not accept the charges brought against him.

The defense side does not agree with the prosecution's version. According to lawyer Zaza Buachidze, an argument and fight occurred at the crime scene. The defense protests the prosecution's assessment of the crime as "murder committed for greed" and demands additional investigative actions to clarify the true cause of the murder.

It should be noted that 37-year-old I. Guliyeva, who went to the Georgian capital for tourism purposes, was staying in a rented apartment there.
