US President Donald Trump has issued an extremely harsh and attention-grabbing statement regarding Iran.
Medianews.az, referring to Musavat.com, reports that Trump stated in a post on his social media account that the US military, under his directive, carried out one of the most powerful bombing operations in Middle Eastern history.
According to the words of the US president, the operation was executed by the United States Central Command, the main military structure operating in the Middle East.
Trump claimed that as a result of the attack, all military facilities located on Kharg Island—considered one of Iran’s strategic military targets—were completely destroyed.
The US president wrote the following in his post:
"A few minutes ago, by my order, the US Central Command carried out one of the strongest bombings in Middle Eastern history and completely destroyed all military targets on Kharg Island, considered Iran’s crown jewel."
Oil infrastructure has not yet been targeted
Another notable point mentioned by Trump in his statement is that according to him, the US military had the power to also destroy the oil infrastructure facilities on the island, but this step has not yet been taken.
The US president stated that this decision was made "for certain reasons." However, if Iran or other forces hinder maritime security in the region, the US may reconsider this decision.
This primarily refers to the Strait of Hormuz, considered one of the world’s most strategic energy routes. A large portion of the world’s exported oil is transported through this strait.
What is Kharg Island and why is it strategic?
Kharg Island is one of the most important energy and logistics centers located on the shores of Iran’s Basra Bay (Persian Gulf). This island is regarded as the main hub of Iran’s oil export system.
According to Musavat.com, a large portion of the oil exported by Iran is sent to global markets through terminals located on this island. The island hosts large oil storage facilities, terminals for loading tankers, and military installations.
For these reasons, Kharg Island is considered one of the most crucial points in terms of Iran’s energy infrastructure and holds strategic importance.
Trump’s ultimatum to the Iranian leadership
In his statement, the US president also claimed that Iran does not have effective defense capabilities against US attacks. According to him, the US military is currently one of the strongest and most modern military forces in the world.
Trump also stated that Iran will never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, and the Tehran leadership should consider the current situation and lay down arms.
Currently, Iran has not given an official response to Trump’s statements. The situation in the region remains tense.
