Former Speaker of the Turkish Parliament PASSED AWAY

Former Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Hüsamettin Cindoruk has passed away.

Medianews.az reports, citing Bakıvaxtı.az, that the politician died at the age of 93 in the hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Recall that H. Cindoruk was born in 1933 in İzmir. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law and worked as a lawyer. He began his political career in the Democrat Party, which was closed after the 1960 military coup. After that, he was one of the founders of the True Path Party (DYP) and served as its chairman for many years.

After the 1991 parliamentary elections, he served as the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (1991-1995). After Süleyman Demirel was elected president, he served as the acting chairman of the DYP for a while.

At the same time, H. Cindoruk, recognized as one of the prominent figures of the center-right in Turkish politics, also briefly exercised presidential powers.
