Shocking confession from the star footballer: "I stabbed my cousin."

The previously undisclosed details have been officially confirmed. Quincy Promes, the 34-year-old forward of the Netherlands national football team, admitted to stabbing his cousin during the initial hearing of the appeal stage.

Medianews.az, citing İdman.Biz, reports that with the help of well-known lawyers Gert-Jan and Kerri Knops, Promes has decided to change his previous stance.

The former national team member stated that it was a mistake to use his right to remain silent at the first instance court:

"I had lost all faith in the judicial system; currently, I am receiving psychological help."

The incident occurred in July 2020 during a family celebration in the town of Abkoude, Netherlands. Promes accused his cousin of stealing the family's jewelry, which led to a fight between the parties. According to the lawyers, during the conflict, Promes struck his cousin once with a knife, but he was in a state of frenzy at the time and probably acted in self-defense.

At the trial, lawyer Kerri Knops also spoke about the traumas the footballer experienced while being imprisoned in Dubai. Promes stated that he heard the torture sounds of other prisoners there and was interrogated about irrelevant topics for days.

It should be noted that aside from the stabbing incident, Promes was found guilty of participating in the importation of 1300 kg of cocaine and was sentenced to six years of imprisonment. The footballer, who is attending court in Amsterdam, still does not intend to end his career.
