5 Azerbaijani citizens have been repatriated from Syria.
According to information provided to Medianews.az by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
It was stated that as a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the Azerbaijani government, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the "Rules for the Repatriation and Rehabilitation of Azerbaijani Citizens under the Age of Majority in Difficult Living Conditions Abroad," approved by the Decree No. 2336 of the President of Azerbaijan dated October 28, 2023, on April 21, 2026, the repatriation of a total of five Azerbaijani citizens, including two women and three children, from the conflict zone of the Syrian Arab Republic to Azerbaijan via Turkey was carried out.
Initially, the location, identity, and Azerbaijani citizenship of the repatriates were determined, and then the transfer to the territory of Turkey was organized.
Representatives of the relevant state agencies responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were sent to Istanbul, Turkey, where they ensured the initial medical and psychological examination of the repatriates.
The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Turkey and the Consulate General in Istanbul conducted the necessary coordination work, and our citizens were provided with return certificates and flight tickets to Azerbaijan.
On April 21, 2026, the repatriation of the aforementioned citizens to our country was carried out under the escort of the delegation.
Relevant measures are planned to be implemented for the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the repatriates into society.
The necessary measures for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens who have become victims of armed conflict on the territory of foreign countries will continue to be taken.
