Lieutenant Colonel detained with 70 kg of gold 7 years imprisonment WAS DEMANDED

The court investigation in the criminal case conducted by the State Security Service (DTS) against Lieutenant Colonel Gahraman Mammadov, who was caught with 70 kilograms of smuggled gold at Istanbul Airport, has been completed.

Medianews.az reports that the state prosecutor made a statement at the hearing held at the Baku Military Court.

The prosecutor requested that Gahraman Mammadov be found guilty of the charges brought against him and sentenced to 7 years imprisonment, to be served in a general regime penal institution, conditionally.

The defense has been given time to prepare their final statement.

It should be noted that G. Mammadov served as the chief assistant to the military attaché of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the USA. When he was detained at Istanbul airport, gold bars weighing a total of 70 kilograms, worth 10,391,970.08 manat, were found in his bag. Investigations determined that these gold bars were transported between different countries through smuggling.

G. Mammadov was finally charged under Articles 12.1, 206.3.2, 12.1-1, 206.3.3 (smuggling carried out abroad by an Azerbaijani citizen as part of a premeditated group using official position) and 12.1-1, 341.1 (abuse of official powers abroad by an Azerbaijani citizen) of the Criminal Code. /Qafqazinfo
