Issifi Cibey, who worked as a chief physician for over 20 years at a clinic in Rendsburg, Germany, has been elected king in Niger.
It is reported that the tradition of monarchy is still preserved in Niger, but the state authority belongs to the central government in the capital Niamey.
Up to 150,000 people live in Kokoru, Cibey's native region. The region is headed by a king elected by a council consisting of all village leaders. More than 10 candidates participated in the last election, one of whom was Cibey.
The former chief physician is also from an aristocratic lineage and was considered a possible heir to the previous king who died in 2023.
As a result, Cibey won by collecting 25 out of 51 votes. Now, the former chief physician from Germany holds the title of emir of Kokoru. He has been elected for life.\Oxu.Az
