According to beliefs, the wind and breeze that awaken on this Wednesday travel around the world, set the awakened water and fire in motion, and give new breath to everything. That is why this Wednesday is called "windy-breezy" Wednesday among the people.
On Wind Wednesday, when hail mixes with snow, bonfires are lit in every yard and neighborhood, and those gathered around the bonfire take turns jumping over it three times. This is done with the intention of getting rid of evil and misfortune, escaping calamities, and cleansing sins.
On Wind Wednesday, preparations are also made for the last Wednesday and Novruz; houses, yards, and chimneys are cleaned, and sweets are baked.
According to Azerbaijani mythological thought, the wind also plays the role of a guide and pathfinder.
