The increase in the age of marriage among youth and the decrease in the number of marriages in Azerbaijan have become one of the main topics of socio-economic discussions. This trend is explained both by financial difficulties and the prioritization of career and personal development. The modern lifestyle and increasing responsibilities lead to a later decision to start a family. In the current situation, the role and support mechanisms of the state in strengthening the institution of the family are of particular importance. Which social and economic support measures can be considered more effective to increase the stability of the family institution?

Regarding this, sociologist Nail Jalil told Medianews.az that the issue of marriage among young people is currently quite topical.
According to him, against the backdrop of increasing divorces, the reestablishment of families by young people and the formation of future plans bring out a number of new social priorities:
“The decrease in marriages is directly related not only to demographic but also to socio-economic processes. This trend can be evaluated as a result of certain economic difficulties and indicators. The difficulties arising in the family institution are often directly connected with economic problems. If a family crisis is observed, it usually means that issues related to employment, income level, and social welfare also emerge.”
The sociologist emphasized that the overall welfare level in Azerbaijan has significantly improved compared to previous decades:
“Nevertheless, poverty, unemployment, and especially housing problems still create serious difficulties for the youth. Problems encountered in resolving housing and living conditions are among the main factors affecting both the delay in marriage and the increase in divorces. At the same time, modern lifestyle, globalization, and the development of new technologies change people's perspectives on the family. The thought and behavior patterns of the youth are now more shaped by the digital environment and new social values. This leads to the emergence of different trends in the approach to the institution of the family.”
Nail Jalil added in conclusion that the factors affecting family and marriage issues are diverse and cannot be explained by a single reason. The state tries to regulate these processes through various social programs and support mechanisms.
